Ormós Zsigmond (1813-1894), the founder of Banat Museum, started buying the objects of art after 1857, when, because of political persecutions, he sold his fortune inherited from his uncle and autoexiled to Italy. He studied the history of Italian art in the 14-19th centuries, he visitied museums, libraries, archeological excavations and the studios of the artists in this country and in the West of Europe, he took part in public auctions of objects of art. A few works bought first were sent to the museum in Budapest, then he tried making up a personal collection following mainly the picture of Venice, come out of the studios of the famous masters' disciples.

The stove-setter Antal Fruhmann (1908-1987) of Győr left his house and workshop in his will to the Xántus János Museum. A new exhibition pavilion was set up on the estate where the stove collection of the museum is shown. The workshop is shown as it is while the house is the home of the exhibition presenting the history of stove-setting in the town of Győr. The set of three exhibitions is an unparalleled collection of stove-setting in Hungary.

In the ares of 150-200 hectares there stood a military camp in the 1st century after Christ. In the 2nd and 3rd centuries it served as a residency for region committees (concilium provinciae) of Pannonia Inferior province. From the end of the 3rd century a new town was built in the place of the ruined settlement. Its name was Herculia, which probably was the county townl of Valeria province.

According to the interest and taste of Ybl, the collection mostly consists of the works of artists of the Hungarian plains and the representatives of post-impressionism in the 1930'ies. The plastic part of the collection presents almost every significant master of the first part of the 20th century. The paintings and statues are displayed on two floors of the house furnished with some pieces of furniture and applied arts items of the Ybl family.

The house built in 1903 was bought by the community in 1983 and opened as a museum. Its interior consists of the objects of the small peasant Braun family, representing the whole set of their tools.

The Museum of Győr by means of the processor of title is the oldest country museum of Hungary. The 'natural sciences store' developed into a significant collection of oldies by the 1850's due to the work of Rómer Flóris. The excellent priest-teacher realized the significance of old objects in terms of education.
