János Vasilescu Sr's collection of works of art from the 20th century, the Vasilescu Collection was shown for the first time in February 2005 at the Municipal Museum of Art Gallery. The inventor Vasilescu was born in Romania, but moved to Hungary. He became a successful businessman and began collecting art in the 1960s. His collection grew gradually until 2002 when he decided to make it public. In 2004 announced a competition for museums in the country: The town of Győr won the contest. The collection was relocated in the Synagouge and opened on 12 August 2006.

The works of art in the collection spiritually related to Vasilescu and one another. The works represent the philosophical trend in Hungarian art. Complex meaning, deep content and new artistic intentions characterise these works.

The body is paintings by Lili Ország. Several of her intellectual forerunners and her contemporary artists are also represented in the collection: Endre Bálint, Dezső Korniss, Tibor Vilt, Erzsébet Schaár, Tamás Hencze, Pál Deim István Nádler.

In addition there are a number of paintings and graphics int he collection by Victor Vasarely, Lajos Kassák, Sándor Bortnyik, László Moholy-Nagy, Tihamér Gyarmathy, Margit Anna, Béla Kondor, Ferenc Martyn, Ilona Keserü, Dóra Maurer and József Bullás.

Statuettes are by Márk Vedres, Jenő Kerényi, Ferenc Medgyessy, Székely Pierre, Tamás Vígh and Tamás Asszonyi.

The temporary exhibition at the Municipal Museum of art consists of works of art from the Vasilescu Collection.
