Since the change of regime in 1989-1990, the extreme right in Hungary has appropriated ancient historic symbols such as the red-white striped flag of the Árpád kings or the turul bird. Besides presenting the history of these two ancient symbols in a historical context, the exhibition shows what symbols, emblems and flags the Horthy regime and its opposition on the far right used and how they did it.
A taste of the exhibition
Original newsreel footages, objects, photographs and posters help visitors get an idea of the cult of Trianon and Horthy after 1920, its revival after 1990, and of the system of symbols used by the extreme right today.
