Today, this tiny village is within half an hour's drive from Paris, but it did not take much longer to get there a century ago, either. Although they started to move to the village bordering the Fontainebleau Forest as early as the 1830s, the Barbizon painters were constantly present with their works all over the capital's art galleries, exhibitions and art dealers' shops, almost as if they had never left Paris at all.
