The ethnographic exhibition presents the traditional peasant tools and methods of spinning and weaving and the variety of the spinning culture typical in South Somogy region. In the outer room magnified photos show the various steps of hemp processing (soaking, drying, swindling and hemp breaking, hackling). Manual swingler and hackle as well as spinning wheel - the main tool for spinning - can be tested by the visitors.
A taste of the exhibition
Skein, various reelers and a huge, carved weaving loom can be seen here. The inner room shows the variability of use of linen. In the traditional peasant farms the women weaved the linen that was used for bedclothes and dresses as well as other textile goods used in the households and farms (shirt, men's white linen culottes, table-cloth, death-veil, straw mattress, sowing cloth, bags and canvas). The most beautiful pieces are decorated with embroidering.

In South-Somogy weaving was typical in the tradition-keeping villages where the Reformed religion was the main religion (Csököly, Nagykorpád, Csurgónagymarton, Alsok and Somogyszob) as well as in villages with Croatian inhabitants by the river Dráva (Lakócsa, Potony, Szentborbás, Tótújfalu and Berzence).

In the inner room the up-to-date but the visitors can test traditional weaving loom. This work is time consuming and requires much skilfulness, patience, sense of beauty and work.
