"The Fairy Tale House is the monument of the renewed fine art of the second half of the 20th century. It is also a living quarter where people and the different genres meet."


On Békés Street in Békéscsaba a small group of architectural wonders shine bright catching the eye of the passer-bys. After their renovations the houses number 15 and 17 became part of the spectacles of Békéscsaba. Around the first half of the 80's the Town spent an enormous amount on buying and renovating the Hursán House. The National Club House was created under 15, Békési Street. The Fairy Tale House is situated under number 17.

Through the past years the houses were renovated several times. The plans of renovations were ready in 1983 and the reconstruction works were finished by 1897. The buildings were also renovated technically. The original windows and doors were replaced and furnaces were built in both streets facing the street.

The fence is made of bricks and there is rough-casting on both on the inside and the outside. It gives an almost perfect enclosure for the garden between the two house.

The cornloft is preserved in the garden and it is also utilized. Originally it was situated parallel with the main buildings. After the reconstruction works the cornloft changed position and now it can be used to stage performances like puppet shows and other children shows. The building is similar to its original form nowadays, the inner garden is perfect for group performances.

Besides the reconstructed houses the new buildings are also built according to the style and atmosphere of the old ones despite the fact the Town originally intended to demolish this part of the town.
