A number of Hungarian museums remember one of the greatest Hungarian painters, István Szőnyi on the 50th anniversary of his death. The Radnai Collection owned by the Municipal Museum of Arts contains a unique selection of Szőnyi's works of art.
Dr. Béla Radnai systematically purchased one painting from every period of Szőnyi's art. So, the collection clasps his oeuvre from the 1910s through the works he made in Zebegény in the 1930s up to the 1940s.
The material of the exhibition in Győr was selected to represent the technical variation with which Szőnyi worked, aquarelles, ink-, pencil-, coal- and crayon drawings. Szőnyi's topics can be grouped into motion studies, classicizing nudes, fine gender scenes portraying family life, landscapes enriched with ink and animal portraits coloured in aquarelle.
The chief items in the drawing collection along with tablet pictures that are otherwise part of the permanent exhibition are to provide a comprehensive review of István Szőnyi's art. The exhibition travels on to the Csohány Kálmán Museum in Pásztó and the Museum of the Győr-Sopron County Museums' Directorate in Sporon augmented by some of Szőnyi's paintings.
A booklet named 'Pictures by István Szőnyi' was published for museum pedagogy classes for children of the age of 7-10 and 11-16. The publication was financed by the NKA.
