The embroidery and the lace of the handkerchiefs are on varied material: on textile, batiste, silk, and pure silk. In the corners there were little flowers or the first name of women sewed in. In the corner of some of the white embroidery the thread may be stretched. Their edge was usually trimmed by ornamented holes, hem-stitch, and lace- or crocheted lace.
