The honorary citizen of Szentes, the painter Lajos Tokácsli (1915-2000) was born 100 years ago. The occasion of the centenary Szentes based cultural institutions have joined forces to honour the memory of the artist before with an exhibition. The exhibition showcasing mainly privately owned paintings also feature the artist's painting assets.

Lajos Tokácsli spent most of his life, apart from years away in school and military service, from the mid-1930s - over 60 years - in Szentes. As artists in general, he served his profession under very harsh conditions, often having a hard time to have food. He could have chosen another residence, he was offered better opportunities abroad, but he remained loyal to his birthplace. He did not only show in Hungary, but several times abroad presented in the framework of solo and collective exhibitions.

He attended artist colonies and field trips abroad in order to develop his artistic skills. The painted realist, impressionist pictures. The central element of his works was nature, his colours were enchanted by the sunlight of plein air. His art is dominated by the joyful depiction of nature, his relationship with humanity.

His pictures are also dominated by lively factures. In his vibrant colours we feel both the thrill of homo faber and the joy of picturesque self-realization. The main strength of his art lays in the brown streets of Szentes with iridescent blaring greens, yolks and blue

The exhibition is located in the Tokácsli Art Gallery.
