The Latin word reticulum means "small net", it was a handbag ancient ladies Rome had, and reticulum was therefore a small sack woven of net. Modern handbags first appeared in the 1860s the same time as the English costume.

The handbags and purses shown at the exhibition as well as the other accessories provide insight into the civilian world of our grandmothers, great-grandmothers.
