The Biennale organizers launched graphic design art's most prestigious domestic periodic exhibition series in 1978, which is shown by the Munkácsy Museum every two years with a view to keep track of Hungarian graphic design developments in the spirit of tradition, and also to promote new values and works of art by graphic design students at universities.
In September 2014 the Hungarian Fine and Applied Artists Association and the Department of Graphic Design Museum Munkácsy jointly announced the 19th National Graphic Design Biennial, which was announced for individual artists , graphic studios, companies, firms, institutions - with the consent of artists - and art students in higher education in 2012-2014. No particular theme was given, artist could make a choice of genre as well (eg, poster, print, stamp, illustration, disc and book covers, book artist, exhibition graphics, logos, branding, information systems, video graphics, animation, interactive graphics, website etc).
The 19th National Graphic Design Biennial was arranged with the collaboration of the Munkácsy Museum, the Association of Hungarian Fine and Applied Arts Department Graphic Design Department and Békéscsaba Municipality. The finances, a significant amount, was provided by the application the Munkácsy Museum sert in for the National Cultural Fund.
Works the jury considered the most prominent were awarded by prestigious prizes. In addition to the traditional major awards and special prizes offered by the National Graphic Design Biennial, the Konecsni prize offered by the Hungarian Fine and Applied Artists is up for grabs, which is always given as a recognition of outstanding graphic oeuvre. The awarded works will be acquired by the Munkácsy Mihály Museum under the statutes of the Biennal.
In connection with the exhibition, a representative catalogue was published that may be purchased at the museum shop.
