The painting by Ernő Jeges from 1940 is one of the late, very interesting and significant memories of Matthias cult between the two world wars. The monarch depicted among scientists large, the large oil painting is both archaic, nostalgic but also very contemporary, as the man facing the monarch, according to the story, had Galeotto Marzio's features, the famous patron of culture, the director of Hungarian Institute in Rome, the curator and academic and recall the feature of Tibor Popper (1882-1954, pictured ) while among the scholars around him some faces could be identified as his contemporaries. Gerevich's portrait was painted by another scholarship artist, Vilmos Aba-Novák. The painting was commissioned in 1937 for the Paris Expo for the historic panno Hungarian-French Relations, King Béla III. among courtiers.

Ernő Jeges studied at the Hungarian College of Applied Arts in 1917-1918, then in the period 1918-1922 Hungarian College of Visual Arts his tutor was István Réti. In 1922-1924 he worked in Paris where he attended the Academy Julian. Later on, he and his fellow painter Béla Onódi paid a visit to Barbizon. In addition to several trips abroad and being a professional scholars, he is referred to as one of the founders of the Szentendre Art Colony (1926) and Szentendre Painters' Society (1928). From the late 1930s, he was involved in a number of monumental ecclesiastic art works. At that time he was renown as a prominent member of the Roman School. He worked with several graphical techniques (woodcut, etching). In 1947, his contract with the studio in Szentendre was terminated. After 1945, some of his landscapes, pictures of the ruins during and after the siege of the town, some of his historical composition, church wall paintings and posters were known. Several church interiors are decorated with his wall paintings.

The painting has been for sale for a long time, and the Ferenczy Museum has long wanted to purchase it. The purchase eventually became possible thanks to the support of NKA. Thus, a particularly important area of the oeuvre of the artists' colony of Szentendre-founder Ernő Jeges's is included in the museum collection. The museum had not owned a painting of this topic by Jeges in the museum's collection. The work of art can be seen from 30 November 2014 every day except Mondays, 10-18 at the Ferenczy Museum (Pajor-Mansion) .
