The museum is Békéscsaba named after Munkácsy commemorates the 170th anniversary of the birth of the painter with a representative exhibition. The exhibition in the museum's grand scale programme for 2014 On the occasion, we equipped the exhibition halls with the most advanced lighting system in Europe.
The Munkácsy Mihály Museum once again won the prospect to show the continuously growing Munkácsy collection of Imre Pákh, the art collector originating from Sub-Carpathia, now living in the USA. This body of work is extended by material from the Museum of Fine Arts, the Hungarian National Gallery and the Déri Museum in Debrecen. Painting material with a number of surprises is on display from February 20 through April 27, 2014 in the Hall of the Muses.
In the Conquerors Room at the Munkácsy Museum, a rich collection of relics is on display that is even more enjoyable with the interior resembling the palace Munkácsy lived in in Paris. This unit is open for visitors until 15 January, 2015.
The Mihály Munkácsy oeuvre is presented is units characteristic of his works. We separated the realistic representations, which are mainly associated with Munkácsy's landscapes from his early days as an artist in Barbizon. The salon pictures include portraits, salon scenes depicted in landscape. Costume salon pictures are in a separate unit.. The unit of three pictures about the story of Christ's suffering is shown with two sketches and the large painting 'Mourning Women' , which we borrowed from the the Andrassy Mausoleum in Trebišov.
