The Hungarian Academy in Rome first opened in 1928 and still exists It in the heart of the old town, dotted with honeycombed streets, in an old baroque palace. The aim of the founders was to redirect Hungarian intellectuals who had been politically shut off after the First World War in the bloodstream of Western European culture.

Every year, dozens of artists on scholarship could see a rapidly modernizing Italian capital. The young Hungarian artists, of course, often visited famous parts of Italy, taking in classic art emanating from the antique and Christian masterpiece. Many works of art proclaim that the existence of the Collegium Hungaricum has served its purpose which was the result of the artists' encounter with contemporary Italian writers, painters and musicians.

The current exhibition also features more than one hundred and fifty of these works, including graphics, sculptures, paintings the common denominator of which is Rome and Italy. Workshop, panel discussions, academic lectures and programs for children accompany the showing.

The exhibition will also provide an opportunity for descendants of the scholars recall the 'big trip' during discussions at the museum artists, talk about friendships among the artist, love affairs, and even weddings that bound to the eternal city of Rome.
