2003.09.10. - 2004.01.04.
The group of ceramicists and applied artists was formed in 1993. Its members are skilled and experienced designers, artists who first of all decided to renew the porcelain utility tools. Their name, DeFORMA, was given by one of the founders called Sándor Dobány.
Earlier on the artist did not know each other. Both Hungarian and foreign artists were invited to the exhibitions. After choosing the themes there came a period of preparation and design work. Their art was united by the few weeks of work spent together. The quality material needed in their work was provided by the Herend Porcelain Manufacture and the Pécs Zsolnay Porcelain Manufacture.
However individual their works are, they are one in their delicacy. From year to year they became more and more formative art works. During the course of time some of the founders left the group which eventually numbered 8 members: Pálma Babos, Monika Bedécs, Olga Benedek, Sándor Dobány, Zsófia Hajdú, Éva Kádasi, Judit Turcsányi and Judit Vida. Instead of the traditional and often boring forms they introduced a new, talkative way of shaping, thus creating the measure of freedom to be followed in the contemporary porcelain art and a new path for the younger generation of ceramicists. Artistic freedom in this field is only due to those who pursue their work in a professional way. The material and technology of porcelain art demands a stern consequency, discipline, accuracy and cleanlyness.
The DeForma Art Group is an internationally approved and rewarded representative of the postmodern design.
On the 10th anniversary of the DeForma Art Group the exhibition arranged in the Applied Art Museum represents the porcelain works in thematical order, together with some of the works made by guest artists. Besides the thematic groups we can see 8 significant works of 8 artists. Through displaying the photos made in the Siklós and Kecskemét workshops our purpose was to introduce give an insight to the visitors in the process of porcelain making. Thoughts that can be read in the exhibition are quoted from writings talking about the DeForma group.
