Encounter of various cultures, their communication takes a highlighted spot in the EU countries. 2008 was the European year of Intercultural Dialogue. That year the programme in question was outlined and was set in Hungary.
The location for the dialogue was the Munkácsy Mihály Museum when it showed the Tingatinga paintings from Tanzania, in cooperation with the Comitas Association.
In 2011, presentation of far away cultures continues in Hungary. East African culture is almost unknown in Hungary. The exhibition endeavours to show a faction it by displaying textiles, garments etc.
The programme series called Window to Africa is a continuation of the former Tingatinga painting exhibition. We hope that the programme will be continued e.g. with showing objects of Ethiopian Christianity.
The topic is a unique one. The textiles we show are unknown in Hungary, and the names also attract a lot of attention. This world is unfamiliar for Hungarian people, both in form and colour. It sheds a completely different light on fashion, clothing, pointing out, that they can have a very different relation to communication, something we do not even consider.
We hope to have organized the objects in a way that is easy to interpret in terms of lifestyle and mentality.
