József Mátyás was born in 1930 in Szentmárton, Transylvania. He studied in Kolozsvár under the guidance of Béla Abódi Nagy and Zoltán Andrássy. His works have been exhibited since 1956 at national and international exhibitions, among others in Moscow, Geneva, Vienna, Helsinki and Tourin.
