József Mátyás was born in 1930 in Szentmárton, Transylvania. He studied in Kolozsvár under the guidance of Béla Abódi Nagy and Zoltán Andrássy. His works have been exhibited since 1956 at national and international exhibitions, among others in Moscow, Geneva, Vienna, Helsinki and Tourin. Private and public collections keep his works in France, Finland, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Canada and the USA. He was awarded several times. József Mátyás die din 2002.

Visionary scapes, like in a dream, arch his figures - for the painting and graphic arts he cultivates are originally figural - particularly his antinomy between unreality and physical outsize outlines the richness of rustic surfaces in his works. His colours remain extremely vivid. Spread in large, contrasting patches, they create the environment in which the beings imagined, by the artist float in a Chagallian manner. Lines surround forms with soft curves. Thus, a fabulous universe is given birth in which ancient myths are narrated with talent and grace.
