The István Szőnyi Memorial Museum considers it its task to present the oeuvre of the Master and research art related phenomena of the period and Szőnyi's educational work. István Szőnyi tutored at the Collage of Fine Arts from 1937 until his death. A number of generations studied with him.

Art pedagogy that the Master believed to be very important can be measured by the works of art of his students. Thus, the museum set off a series in 1984 entitled 'Honour to the Master'. Ever since then, Szőnyi students’ art is continuously shown in our exhibition rooms. For a student, the greatest appraisal is to see his artworks next to that of his master. The facilities of the Szőnyi Museum provide the right opportunity to compare pictures, to put them into context. We can discover new correspondences that add to the study of the given period.
Erika Juhász attended the Collage of Fine Arts from 1944 to 1951, she studied form drawing from István Szőnyi. It becomes clear reading her confessions how important she considered the opinion of her master: 'Szőnyi never forced us to try to see things the way he saw them. He was amazing when it came to recalling each and every work of his students and their development. This is yours! There are a lot of good things in it. - he used to say looking around the room filled to capacity, when he discovered my picture. You should not take heed of anything people say, including me, You just have to paint - he encouraged me and gave advice I needed for my life. I accepted my Master's advices with great honour and happy heart. When I entered the Big Life, I could grab spectacle with fresh eyes, deepening in it and refining it with my painting art.'
Szőnyi's direction, even if not directly, determined which way I was to take as a young artist. Erika Juhász's art meets colorism preferring powerful effects and the discipline of devising strength with luck. Art pedagogy is an important segment of her life. From 1959 to 2000 she was a professor at the Training Collage of Budapest and collage reader.
