Dr. Kováts Ferenc (1913-1997) belongs to international pulmonology. He domesticated the most modern lung therapeutics methods. He was also successful showing his research results via fine art. His talent showed even when he was at collage, when he made caricatures of the most significant MDs of his time such as Issekutz Béla, Szent-Györgyi Albert, Purjesz Béla etc.. He continued doing it in Switzerland, France and Rome adding new portraits of scientists he met there. He made pictures of all his colleagues from the 1930’s to 1950's, as well as of his colleagues living outside of Hungary who he met.
Prof. Kiss Ferenc
The unit set up in chronological order of their making shows his development as an artist and the quality of his work. The emotional approach to his personal relations can be deciphered looking at the caricatures. The series is important from the point of view of cultural and medical history.

The 200 pictures were made with varied technique: graphite, colore pencil, aquarelle, markers. etc. The size of the pages also varies: generally though 18 x 13 cm. The name of the person who is shown in the picture is in the back of each one, most of them includes a few more details.

The Semmelweis Medical History Museum and Library bought the material from Kováts Ferenc's widow supported by the National Cultural Found in 2002. It was shown on the 10th anniversary of the death of the artist supported by the Hungarian Lung Therapeutics Association, the Springmed Press and the Self-government of Óbuda.
