The painter Kárpáti Éva was born on 30 July 1936. She attended Fine and Applied Arts secondary school in Török Pál Street. She was the student of the painter and arts teacher of Sebestyén Ferenc.

She graduated in 1954 and in that same year she was accepted to the Collage of Fine Arts where her tutor was Papp Gyula. In 1956 she emigrated to Italy, then to Austria. Two years past before she returned to Debrecen, but she never returned to collage. She first showed her paintings in Veszprém in 1973. Then her next independent exhibition was held in Győr. Her first show in Budapest was held in the Vasas Cultural Center in the "Csili" Gallery.
At the beginning of her career she mainly painted still-lives in the naturalist style, later she was influenced by Surrealism. From the beginning of the 80's it became obvious to her which way to choose. It was her own way where in the center there was always men, faces and eyes. She began her portrait series of writers, composers and artists. She was also interested in female nudes. The works of Gustav Klimt and Egon Schide influenced her. In portrait painting she took Gyémánt Lászlót for her master. She also learned a lot from the pictures of Ivon Albright. She believes that the most important element in her works are the complete meditative experience of a situation to influence the topic. For her this is the only way to reach her aim in art.
Her exhibitions:
1977, Szolnok, Aba-Novák Ward; 1979, Sydney, Holdsworth Galeries; 1980, Dunaújváros, Uitz Ward; - with Gyémánt László; 1980, Békéscsaba, Munkácsy Mihály Ward; Budapest, Fészek Arts Cub; 1981, Pécs, Ferenczy Ward; Kőszeg, Jurisics Vár; Nagymaros, Cultural Center; 1982, Veszprém, Dési Huber Ward; 1984, Budapest, Csók Gallery - with Gyémánt László; 1985, Békéscsaba, Munkácsy Ward; 1986, Budapest, Vigadó Gallery; 1987, Veszprém, Castle Gallery; Székesfehérvár; 1988, Sweden, Göteborg Börjessons Gallery; 1988, Austria, Collegium Hungaricum; 1989, Simontornya, Castle Museum; 1990, Budapest, Csók István Gallery; 1992, Budapest, Koller Gallery; 1995, Budapest, Csók István Gallery.
