In the first theatre building opened in 1789 German theatre companies played for two decades. The opening of the first official Hungarian Theatre in the 19th century and the theatre companies playing in Miskolc are closely related. From 1816 the theatre companies playing in Miskolc often visited Kosice. The first play in the Hungarian Language titled 'The Rattling Hat' premiered on 19, May, 1816 by a company from Miskolc. One of the actresses was Mrs. Déry Róza Széppataky. From 1828 Kosice was the center form the Singing Association of Transylvania. In 1833 this company presented the play written by József Katona titled "Bánk bán". continue
