We cannot recommend the exhibition either to those who live in the natural world of reality shows or those who are after lewd and selfish pleasures. We recommend it to those who are interested in the refined and innovative compositions, the erotic of the past and our present time and the little bit brave and lavish games. An unknown world is revealed before us through the small graphics - the ex libris works.

Originally an ex libris was used as an identification - stuck inside the books. However, from the time of the secession it was not stuck in the books any more, for it became an independent style. I still remained personal, and this gave reason for the circulation of the bravest graphics works. Similarly to the stamp collectors, these cards were also collected - mostly by the physicians (as far as the erotic character of them was concerned).

It always depended on the age and taste what people thought of as erotic or lavish. In 1913 the exhibition representing the graphics of sir Bayros resulted in such havoc that the police had to shut it down. The exhibition begins with his works, but the question is if it still causes any disapproval. Our outstanding graphics artists, such as Mihály Zichy or Attila Sassy, have made erotic drawings. The whole of the 20th century is introduced to us. We can see contemporary Hungarian and foreign works. On some occasions we have to take a deep look at the drawings in order to see what they are all about. Other works surprise us by their graphic demands, whereas the new ones stand out by their great variety of colors.

The first ex libris exhibition of the Applied Arts Museum was held 100 years ago. The greatest ex libris collector, botanist dr. Rezső Soó was born in the same year. The exhibition mostly leans on his works, supplemented by the materials of contemporary collectors and artists.
