Painter and sculptor Sándor Molnár - establisher of the Zugló Friends and teacher of the Fine Art Academy - worked out his first yoga theory in 1966. The various cycles of painter yoga are made up by the metaphoric application of the 4 ancient elements and alchemy: earth, water, fire and air. At present the fire application stands at the crystal period.

Molnár's art can be divided into definite and clear sections. He often thinks in series, which search after the transformation of the natural forms and the existence of the elementary powers.
The Ernst Museum exhibits the "Crystal Pictures" series painted between 1994 and 2002. This series has not yet been wholly exhibited. (Only a few of these appeared in the Art Gallery exhibition in 1997).
To Molnár the "Crystal Pictures" are the actions of the intellect, which are manifested through the number, the proportion and geometry.
Molnár created a personal abstraction, thus opposing to the impersonality of the geometric pictures appearing within the European painting. Yet there is a painting tradition which has an effect on the "Crystal Pictures": Van Eyck, Vermeer, Jacques Villon; and in the Hungarian art: the art of Csontváry, Ferenc Martyn, Tamás Lossonczy. Martyn and Lossonczy sparingly made crystal pictures, but unlike in the art of Sándor Molnár, they were not made in a period characterizing mainly this type of art.
25 large oil paintings and 31 large aquarelles are exhibited.
