A young Hungarian man was among those who rescued survivors at the Titanic disaster. Dr. Árpád Lengyel, was a doctor from Budapest. He boarded the Carpathia .at the age of 26.

The doctor was on duty on the night of the tragedy at the steerage, the Titanic's frostbitten survivors were raised through an open door from the lifeboats to that place, then Poland decided how to care for them. In recognition of his work, later he received a lot of letters of gratitude, gifts from survivors and also an award. The tragedy, however, so worn him out that he no longer undertook medical service on board and never talked about his experiences except for one or two technical reports.
The exhibition Titanic and Carpathiapresents the catastrophe of the luxury ship on various tableaux. The exhibition is arriving from Croatia with two ship models as well as the original life jacket with which one of the passenger's life was saved.
Szeged -related tableaux will be also presented. In addition to contemporary newspaper reports on the disaster we show a montage of interest: the exhibition organizers placed the Titanic in Szeged, and modelled using a graphic what would be the steamer look like if it showed up in front of the downtown bridge on the River Tisza.
