Pipe Archaeology is the title of the interactive exhibition that opened on 15 January 2010 in Siófok, sponsored by the FGSZ Földgázszállító Zrt. The 1000-mm-diameter gas pipeline that was put down in 2008 crosses through four counties, Hajdú-Bihar, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Csongrád and Bács-Kiskun. A number of archaeological finds were discovered along the route of the line, including finds from the late Árpád Age.
In addition to the items on display, the visitors may also try some of the authentic replicas of the period tools. They can, for example, try sewing with bone needles, grind with ancient methods or may also try how people in the Iron Age applied pottery technology.
Modern technological inventions, computers, information desks and models help the visitors learn about the work of restorers. Some photos will reveal information on the work of the gas line.
The exhibition is full of experience and is also playful, hopefully for all ages.
The travelling exhibition first arrived at the Kálmán Imre Cultural Centre in Siófok, and then it travelled on to Szeged, Kecskemét, Nyíregyháza and Eger. The Zoltai Room of the Déri Museum in Debrecen hosts the exhibition from 28 September 2012 to 3 February 2013.
