Csiszár Elek was born in Keszthely in 1932. He lived there until 1959, except for a short time when he lived in Budapest, when he moved to Siófok to live by Lake Balaton. The lake and the surrounding landscape is almost always there in his pictures. He first showed in 1954, but he held his first solo exhibition in 1961 at the Ripple-Rónai Museum n Kaposvár. In addition, he has showed in Yugoslavia, Poland, the Soviet Union, East Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Austria, Israel and Croatia, too.

The art of Elek Csiszár is nature-based, but it is spectacle oriented. His pictures always render deep ideas, which are more than the simple reading of the motifs he uses. (The art historian Gábor Pogány)

He has joined the Art Base in 1968, the National Association of Hungarian Artists in 1993.

He was accepted in the Association of Hungarian Visual- and Applied Artists in 1976.

He was awarded with the Rippl-Rónai Prize in 1963. Moreover, he was awarded with various other prizes and acknowledgement.

1978: Confessions of Kaposvár - Vaszary Room: The Town of Kaposvár Grand Prize, Somogy County

Art Award, 1985: Somogy County Exhibition 1. Prize, 1994: Somogy County Spring Exhibition Grand Prize, 1995 he won again the Somogy County Art Prize,

In 1987 he was awarded with the Medallion for Siófok, in 1993 Siófok Jubilee Medallion.

In 1997 he received the Balaton Prize.

He was awarded with Honorary Citizenship of Siófok in 1998.
