The Hungarian Orchid Society is going to organize its autumn orchid and bromelia exhibition again between 23 and 26 Ocrober 2003 at the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture.
A taste of the exhibition
In contrast to public relief orchids are not parasites. Among their 25 thousand species and more than 2 million hybrids there are a lot of beautiful, sometimes bizarre plants which might as well bloom for as long as three months.

The exhibition is completed with the assessment of the most beautiful orchids and with a plant market. Orchids are characterized by their six petals but they can have any colour distinguished by human eyes. It can occur from white to black in any mixture of red, yellow, green and blue. The six petals can show various colours even in one bloom, the orchid is partly favoured due to this feature. The other reason is the exoticism that these rare plants of the tropics can be welcomed and admired in our flats. Whether it is a tropical flower beauty or a home orchids having a tiny bloom, it belongs to the same family of plants. These relatives occurring in every part of the world always adopt to their environment. So it is possible that the plants living in rain forests, or in hot semi-arid areas appear in the greenhouses of plant fans, they become more and more known and favourable and they can be kept in today's flats, although with reservations.

The variety of orchid blossoms is characterized by the Mediterranean and home ophryses, which have the form of a fly, a humble-bee or a spider.

The tropical butterfly- or spider-like orchids are also remarkable. The tropical flowers having a big blossom can be full or they can have a star form. The small blossoms bunch together and show the form of a candle, a head or other unimaginable figures. And we have still not mentioned their fragrance giving the basis of perfume which is just as variable as the colour of the flower. The popular vanilla as spice is also an orchid and its bloom is really beautiful.

Nature protection and orchids have also met each other since every species of them is protected from rain forests to temperate zone yellow soil.
