The exhibition in the BTM Budapest Gallery is an important stage for the Materia Art Association. The eight artists of the group mix materialism with spiritualism in their intellectuality. József Bartl, István Birkás, János Dréher, Árpád Gáll, and those who do not take part in this exhibition: Ferenc Kis-Tóth, András M. Novák, Zsigmond Serényi H. and László Paizs who died in 2009, now will become more complete with the joining artists: József Baksai, István Haraszty, György Jovánovics, Tamás Szikora, Zoltán Tölg-Molnár and Gábor Záborszky.

If we look for the source of this painting technique, we have to search among those representatives of Western-European lyric abstraction, informel and tasizm who like to use soil, sand, brick- or glass-dust, gypsum, putty, asphalt and different kinds of plastic to prepare the special base of their pictures. The essence is in the spontaneous, direct, loose, expressive and astonishing use of the "hautes pâtes" worked out individually, the thick layer of the paint-paste or mass. This way of work is typical about Jean Fautrier, Jean Dubuffet és Antoni Tapies Tihamér Novotny (2010. Kortárs Magyar Galéria, Dunaszerdahely).
In point of the use of material and impact of fracture among the members of the association, Novotny marks out four basic directions: works with the use of the technique of rendering, works which use the thick layer of paint, the minimalist and conceptualist works using different materials and techniques, and works which use the worn out objects of the consumer society, the new age garbage and materials.
You nearly feel, touch, taste, smell everything that the members of the Matéria Art Association can tell individually and collectively in their life, leaning over the life, plunging into life, taking from life with the language, character, alchemy, texture, layers of materials.
And the works are very-very communicative separately and one by one as well.
