The exhibition presents a selection from the collection of natural sciences owned by the Somogy County Museum.

The collection consists of finds from Somogy County mainly, and also items from all around the world. The number of items is over half a million. Some we acquired from exotic places mostly by way of exchange or donations. However, our museum’s employees collected items in Europe, Asia and Africa, too.
The Department of Natural Sciences has been the only science studio in Somogy that did basic researches in natural sciences for along time. The result of these works was the designation of nature protection areas in Somogy.
Scientific researches, collecting work and data processing in the framework of natural science museology are considered the base for learning about natural values in Somogy County. Repeated studies help us draw certain conclusion in terms of changes in natural. Information we gain this way are important when designing and planning exploitation of nature, and estimation of environmental changes. Information of this sort establishes a chance for us in Somogy County to preserve natural environment on a long-term basis.
Our fish, amphibious and reptile collection is mainly made up of coloured scale models. In case of birds and mammals, we mounted animals we found deceased, but in a good shape. The Department of Natural Sciences for our museum keeps collecting deceased animal, which our employees mount. Animals in the collection were mostly hit by cars or killed by electricity. Unfortunately, there are too many animals that get killed when they hit large windows. There are also many that die of poisoning. The mounted animals are used in education.
The visitors are shown a short film about life in various natural environments in Somogy County. We emphasised the rhythm of changes in the four seasons that is reflected in the events in the life of the wild-life. After the film, the visitors find themselves in front of photos of flora and fauna, and of employees of the museum at work. The exhibition ends with two wild-life photos.
