The town of Kecskemét was shaken by an earthquake one-hundred years ago, on 8 July 1911. It is considered as one of the worth catastrophes in the history of the town. The Sunday News wrote the following: 'The blow of the catastrophe hit the town of Kecskemét in the midst of unprecedented development.'

The turn of the century and the first decade of the 20th century saw a spectacular economic and cultural development in town. The main square, several public buildings were built in those days in secessionist style.
The exhibition shows what Kecskemét was like in 1911, with her economy, markets, trade constructions etc. Various items in the secessionist style demonstrate the most important characteristics of the style.
The earthquake is recalled by period photos and documents.
The rebuilding of the town was the result of exemplary concentration of forces.
