We display five banknotes issued in 1848/49 during the Hungarian revolution and war of indepencence in 1848/49. These banknotes were called as Kossuth-banko ("Kossuth notes") because Lajos Kossuth was the fouder of these new Hungarian paper notes. These notes were designed by József Tyroler.

The first note is a ten forint issued note with printed signature of Lajos Kossuth, and with handwritten serial number on the front side. It was issued on the 1st of September, 1848, in Pest.
We have state treasury notes of 30 krajcar (the small part of the forint) issued on the 1st of January, 1849, in Buda by the Committee of National Defense. These notes were signatured by Ferenc Völgyi, the general treasurer.
And we also display state treasury notes of 2 forint issued on the 1st of July, 1849, in Budapest. These notes were signatured by Lajos Kossuth, the governor-president of Hungary and Ferenc Duschek, the minister of finance.
On the back side of the notes there is a warning in five languages (in Hungarian, in German, In Chech, in Romaian and in Serbian) that reprintig and faking of banknotes will be punished.
The Kossuth notes were ordered to collect and to destroy by the Austrian government after the failure of the revolution and the war of independence. We display a list of those Tiszafüred inhabitants who had Kossuth notes and who had to hand in these notes on the 30th of September, 1849. They had to destroy a total amount of 17.096 forint in Kossuth notes. Possession of such notes was severely punished. However a few citizens could manage to keep some pieces.
