The exhibition has closed for visitors.
2010.01.27. - 2011.01.27.
The exhibition guides the visitors through from the beginnings of cartography to maps made in the 20th century. Remarkable maps were discovered in archives and libraries during the research work. A clerical property map from the 18th century is worth noticing. It shows one of the vineyards owned by the clergy in the Buda Hills. Other maps of special interest are the Ottoman siege maps, among those one shows the fortresses on Sváb Hill from where the Ottomans were cannoned.
The exhibition however does not only deal with the 7th district of Budapest. A few maps of the capital are also part of the display. A wall is covered with traffic and tourist maps. The large aerial photo about the district is stuck on the floor, with all the streets on it.
The visitors can learn both about the past and present of the district, in addition to gaining knowledge of cartography. They can see through instruments used by surveyors, they can even try them. In addition to the maps, the visitors will find old postcards so that they can envisage the past.
