Artistic career of István Rombai (Zombor, 1888 - Budapest, 1974) started at the beginning of the 20th century. He studied at the Applied Art School, than in the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest and in Munich. He took part exhibitions from 1914 in Budapest, provinces and abroad as well. He was successful with his protraits, landscapes and interiors. Basically he was a realistic artist, who applied the conception of plain-air in his works exceedingly.
A taste of the exhibition
His works got into museums but mainly into private collections. After 1940 he could not exhibit his works. Remainder paintings in inheritance of the family are presented first time in our gallery.
