The infrastructure of the country in Hungary was built out by the 1960's. It was only then when hygiene was modernized. Thus, the old way of washing existed until the end of the seventies in the villages parallel with modern hygiene. The exhibition presents the hygiene costumes of the 20th century beginning with the most archaic peasant practices ending with modern bathrooms.
A taste of the exhibition
The exhibition part of the series named DOMINO 2006 focuses on the second half of the 20th century. We only show practices of the peasants to parallel them with new practices.

Hygiene costumes can be separated into five eras. When we follow the changes that occurred in one century, the most obvious is how the term 'cleanliness' became ever so complicated: the requirements concerning genders, ages and body parts changed and new means formed.
