In 2006 , the 'Teddy Bear Museum' began in Rákóczifalva in empty buildings which were then redone into a museum by Antal Balázs and his family. A magical world of fairy tales came true. The visitors from Hungary and abroad come, enter and are amazed. They then keep sending gift teddy bears (from factories of their homeland) to Rákóczifalva thereby augmenting the incredibly valuable collection.

The smallest teddy bear is only three cms, the largest have wheeled legs, it is a more than one-meter tall bear. The oldest one is made of wood fibre, and is 115 years old. There are also expensive German Steiff bears, for which the collector did not pay in cash; but paid with their restoration or were presents to the museum. The number of bears is around 2000, however, we only have space for 5-600 – though we have added some rooms ever since the first opening and 40 of them are always on the road.

The idea of travelling bears also came from Antal Balázs. He figured that it would be nice if famous people, private travellers would take with them a teddy bear to make the name of Rákóczifalva known nationwide. He also decided that the costumes the teddies wear would be designed by stage and theatre designers. Therefore the Seven Chiefs, King Stephen, Queen Gizella, Ferenc Rákóczi II, Ilona Zrínyi or the Bishop wit Pearl Hat can all be seen on the toy bears.

We brought some items from the collection to Tiszafüred.
