Medieval castles set the imagination of almost every person's fantasy. Unfortunately, today the ruins of castles or fully restored castles no longer resemble their original form. However, in their own time, in addition to being mainly residences, the also fulfilled the role of business centres and fortifications, and were symbols of power of the given social order and powers. The architecture of Hungarian medieval castle reveal the economic and political situation as well as the art and the everyday life of the particular era. The picturesque ruins make human imagination soar, but the reconstructions have also something offer for the imagination.

Virtual scientific recreations based on archaeological and historic researches, the real world of medieval castles becomes lucid for everyone. The reconstruction - in addition to the archaeological excavations - are made using contemporary prints, sketches, specifications, and digital technology.

Gergely Buzás director for the King Matthias Museum in Visegrád, chief curator of the exhibition explained why it is important to show medieval castles this way: "Documentation of a scientific research are the archaeological items unearthed including broken pots, rusted iron, broken glass and bone remains rather- For an ordinary museum visitor these make the topic more mysterious and less contribute to them seeing how medieval people lived on a daily basis inside the walls of castles. Modern digital technology makes everything the researchers conclude of the residues come to life. The reconstructions of medieval castles do not show what we remained of the castle, but what we do know about them. "

The exhibition presents reconstructions of eight castles: Óbuda, Visegrád, Diósgyőr, Esztergom, Tata, Simontornya, Kisnána and Mohosvár as well as 3D printing made models, computer animations, interactive multimedia installations and the weapons unearthed in Visegrád. The Óbuda Museum added further material to the exhibition: From the Budapest History Museum the former jugs, glasses, pots and oven pieces from the Old Buda Royal Castle (of which now unfortunately nothing is visible on the surface!); from the Balassa Bálint Museum of Esztergom we show pots, jugs, tiles, oven pieces, keys, spearheads, bits, spurs; while from the Kuny Domokos Museum of Tata we show cannon balls, valverts and tiles. So strengthen, enhance each other's effects digital technology. Animation and concrete finds with which visitor can really experience life in the daily lives of residents in medieval castles . The implementation of digital technology, animation was performed by Pazirik Informatikai Inc. The exhibition also presents a summary animated film about the history of the eight castles, including legends and sagas. In the entrance hall to the Museum of Óbuda a photo exhibition is shown about the present state apf the castles.

The theme of the exhibition also inspired the publication of the book "Medieval Castles" is (by Gergely Buzás and Olivér Kovács ),which was initially designed as an exhibition catalogue. The book is about European and Hungarian castle architecture -both for the public and the profession, with the latest research results on the topic.
