The Museum of Applied Arts commemorates the master of Hungarian Art Nouveau, Ödön Lechner on the hundredth anniversary of his death with a large-scale exhibition. The evaluation of the architect who is a candidate for the UNESCO World Heritage lists changed in recent year: the wealth of forms Lechner used, his world of fantasy, innovative solutions in his art of, his individual style make him stand out of domestic architects and put him among the world-class masters of the19th century immortal, just to mention a few names , the Catalan Antoni Gaudí, the Belgian Victor Horta, the Scottish Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Austrian Otto Wagner keyword.

 

The exhibition present the complete oeuvre of the architect Ödön Lechner (1845–1914). Special attention is devoted to the site of his main works, which was chosen for UNESCO world heritage, the Kecskemét town hall, as well as the Museum of Applied Arts, the Kőbánya church, the Geological Institute and the Posta Savings Bank. These are shown by way of the architect's original sketches and drawings, as well as photos from the past and some taken especially for this exhibition. Ornaments that played such a big role in Lechner's work, especially its details , publications that inspired him, the main way of realization, namely, Zsolnay ceramics are also presented. One of the rooms the places, Lechner's second home, is like a Japanese Café world. The works of another major architect is on display by way interactive panoramic images.

 

A catalogue was published to accompany the exhibition containing an introductory study and an exhibit list. The rich imagery of Ödön Lechner's drawings and sketches as well as a large number of replicas are mostly recently taken photos to the volume and the exhibitions.. The publication was co-produced by the Museum of Applied Arts and the Humanities Research Institute Sciences Institute of Art History in English and Hungarian. The study was written and the catalog was edited by József Sisa .
