In our exhibition we show concret roof tiles from Örvény (today it is a part of Tiszafüred, Hungary). These roof tiles were the products of Mihalcsik concrete roofing tile manufactoring company from the midwar period (1920-1940).

It was Mr Mihalcsik, who owned a small concrete roofing tile manufacturing workshop located in Hunyadi street since the 1920s, in Örvény. This workshop was setled in Örvény as fine river sand could be found next to Örvény, in River Tisza.

These concrete tiles are made from sand, water and cement. They are not fired like clay tiles, but at the end of the manufactoring process the tile-makers let them set and harden. This process makes them sturdy enough to be transported and laid within a few days of manufacture.

We display three concrete roof tiles and two ridge tiles in our show case in order to show the development of roofing technology of our settlement during the first half of the 20th century.
