A new exhibition at the Hungarian National Gallery presents works of "film avant-garde" . unfolding between the two world wars. In the 20th century a number of important avant-garde artists dealt with the possibilities of a new kind of expression of motion. Influence of Man Ray, Fernand Léger, Marcel Duchamp, Viking Eggeling, Hans Richter, Walter Ruttmann, Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí on Surrealist and Dadaist moving images on the Hungarian avant-garde can be traced. This particular chapter of Hungarian cinema and the movies related to these, however, have never been shown to the public together.

. Gyarmathy made this 4-minute film with photograms of plant and animal specimens in the amateur film club on the attic of the National Salon.
