Through colourful cuts, beautiful photos and fashion magazines, the visitors are introduced to fashion of the period from 1850 to 1930. Ornamented antillas, Zrínyi, Kazinczy or Buda coats, crinolines, ’trip skirts’, ’wartime crinoline’, the expedient elegance lead us up to the 1920 and 1930s when straight then slinky dresses were in fashion.

In addition to a number of original garments, we show accessories, too. Prom dresses made in Vienna and Nagykanizsa, pearl embroidered dresses, evening dresses, Opera cloaks made of silk or velvet, elegant suits for men, the coat with the spirited name the ‘Franz Joseph’ coat, top hats, hats made in Paris and Pest, gloves made of lace or leather, sunshades, and a great number of lingerie await the visitors to be seen. The material was selected from the collections of the Thúry György Museum and the Göcsej Museum In addition, we also reveal some customs related to the way they were worn, expectations, what was considered the ideal beauty and also how fashion was influenced and by what.

Items long forgotten are also on display, such as the shoes buttoner, glove stretcher, muffs or galoshes.

The visitors may enter the photo studio located in the Mathea Károly Garden and see the authentic photos of how fashion has changed. They may also visit a sawing shop , the lingerie shop owned by Mária Török and also the Totola-Pacsirszky Hat Shop.

The exhibition provides some insight into a segment of the history of fashion through the presentation of hats, shoes and also the history of their maker and those who were involved in their trades.
