János Sárdy was born on 26 July 1907 in Nagykónyi, in Tolna County. In his childhood full of hardship, he managed to graduate from the Teacher Training Collage of Pápa. In 1927 he moved to Dunaföldvár and began working as a teacher, however, he was an enthusiastic actor at the local theatre, too. He took singing lessons from Árpád Palotai.

In 1936, he received scholarship from the Hungarian Opera House. Erkel’s Bánk bán was the first opera he was cast in. From 1938 to 1958 he, with a short time not counting, was the member of the Opera House. He mainly sang playful tenor parts. Among others, he sang the role of the Student Kálmán (Poldini: Mardi Gras Merriment); Papageno (Mozart: Magic Flute); David (Wagner: The Mastersingers of Nuremberg); Pedrillo (Mozart: The Abduction from the Seraglio); Almaviva (Rossini: The Barber of Seville). From 1945 on, he successfully sang in the Pongrác Kacsóh play entitled Sir John .

He became popular after he played the lead role in the movie You Are the Song 1940. After the first one, he received role film after film. He sang in the movie The Madonna of Kalotaszeg (1943). The song The Leaf of a Rose became the most popular song of those he ever sang. He first appeared on the stage of the Operetta Theatre in 1942 in a play by Jenő Huszka : Lieutenant Maria as a quest artist.

In 1948 he adapted the play by Márton Keleti and Albert Szirmai Mágnás Miska to stage: The leading roles were played by Sárdy and Marika Németh. Mágnás Miska has run successfully ever since. In 1958 he signed a contract with the Operetta Theatre of Budapest where he remained as an actor until his death. In 1963 he was awarded with the prize Merited Artist. He died on 4 March 1969.

The exhibition reviews the life and art of János Sárdy who was born 105 years ago, The body of the material on display is from the village of his birth Nagykónyi. One of the photos even tell us about the relationship of Sárdy to the skeleton in the museum. The material consists of photos, documents and costumes, as well as some of his furniture and his voice recordings.
