Light and brilliance, presentiment emerging from the bleak darkness and then brightening: Erzsébet Udvardi's pictures don't tell stories, they don't force themselves on the viewers - they prompt them to contemplate. A primeval element of this painting is water: whether memories of Baja, relatives mistily taking shape, with a steamship sailing away in the distance, - past and present are entwined with each other, in everyone's world. There is the one which has passed, and a glimpse of time long past, "on the fairy lake of past youth".
