In the past centuries, a number of maps of Balassagyarmat were made. These maps showed the town in such detail that would be extremely hard to express in words or early images that somewhat also described the town.

These maps, besides being indispensable sources of local history, also show changes in the landscape, geography of a region, changes in names, traditions of naming, changes in language and are also important documents of cartography technology.

Our exhibition presents 35 documents that are otherwise hard to find, including the first map of the town from 1773, up to maps made for the postal services, in addition to military maps and maps made with digital technology.
