One of the most interesting phenomena of the past eight to ten years, both in terms of art history and art trade, is the painting boom that can be witnessed in a city of the former East-Germany, Leipzig. From the marriage of an academic tradition that has roots in the local realistic painting as well as in the art education of the city (College of Graphics and Book Design, 1764), and a peculiar, outdated mode of representation that was overwritten by artists coming from the West, a new, original school was born.
