Mihály Gácsi (Budapest, 10th August, 1926 - Zalaegerszeg, 5th February, 1987.) Graphic artist, honoured with Munkácsy-prize.

Learnt in openstudies, later, from 1949 to 1956 he was a student of the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts. His masters were Endre Domanovszky, Gyula Hincz and Károly Koffán.

From 1956 to 1974 he was a graphic artist in the colony of artists in Szolnok. He was a significant character of the colony (even of the whole town; really bohemian).

From 1974 he lived in Hódmezővásárhely, after that from 1976 in Zalaegerszeg till his death. He was an expert in the technique of engraving and etching. Tone of anecdoting, caricaturistic rendering is a typical way of expressing himself. At first he made selfironic, a little bit decadent artworks.

His formal mode of expression throughout invariable. Polarized figurativity, unusual grotesque, deformed formation is typical of him. History of art known him about his graphics. His works were published in journals, he illustrated books, publications, tales. In addition to these he painted, above all in his latest years. (Landscapes, still lifes.) His graphics' most important characteristic features are the humour and the irony, but his works rather dramatic. His pessimistic pictures represent fear of the passing of the beuty, fear of the automatic world.
