I was born and brought up at Mohács, I am connected to this town through my memories, and my habits, my loved ones... I know the landscape and its people. I don't need feathers of a peacock, when I am unable to wear it genuine; I leave to bear it to whom it belongs. Anyway, I don't need to go anywhere to gather inspirations or impulses. Mohács is a town of mixed nationalities, with a colourful cultural "palette". The numberless habits, traditions mean an inexploitable mine of treasures to me.
Artwork by Tibor Tatai
Since my childhood every year I’m awaiting the Buso carnival. First I was a jankele, dressed in rags, then I became a Buso. Certainly it is not the only tradition of Mohács, but undoubtedly the most characteristic. My sokac origin also requires me dealing with that theme. I was socialized in this milieu, I am a participant of the events and besides, with the help of my uncle - headmaster of the Museum Kanizsai Dorottya - I had the opportunity of a deeper acquaintance with the history of our traditions.

In the past the masks used to be joyful, instead of frightening, and various, because the masters didn’t carve it according to a scheme, but according to their own manual skills. My pictures also mediate lots of gay characters. Many a time I illustrate the masked ones only portray-like, but also during activities. Among the activities are to find also erotic scenes, implying to the original matter of the tradition, to the sorcery of fertility. They form is stylised, I grasped their topmost characteristics.

The colours (white, black, red) reflect the colours of old sokac weaves. These were completed at the appearance of industrialisation with various silver and golden strands, flitters. Here are the silver and golden motives at the pictures from.
