In the Middle Ages, when literacy was limited to a small group of people, an official charter written in Latin served to put down something important solemnly.

The kings donated deed of gift to the nobles, land and privileges to their subjects. Later the degrees received from schools were also called deeds. Nowadays, deeds are only uniformed preprinted papers.
The handwritten and painted deeds of Szalai Katalin try to make the monotony forgetten and change it into something personal.
The figure of the writer of codices usually appears in front of our eyes as a monk from the Middle Ages as he puts down the letters on the parchment in his cell.
Szalai Katalin is the writer of codices in the 20th century. Her pens, brushes made by herself bring the beauty of manual work back into our monotone world connecting the old and new.
While technique is leading humanity to mass production, the need to meet unique is in abundance in men. Katalin wishes to satisfy this need also by recreating the lost family coat of arms and drawing individual deeds. Her aquarelles done in Secession style create a dream world with their magic colors. They mirror our interest in the past ages.
