The boy scouts started by the Englishman Robert Baden - Powell - the legendary B.P. - soon spread all over the world. Our exhibition shows the beginning of Hungarian scouting between WWI and WWII.
A taste of the exhibition
The ideas of scouting are shown with the drawings and the words of the founder: 'Scouting is not a philosophy for adults but toy for kids'. 'It is a great game, exciting, the lifestyle of teenagers in community'. Everybody may join who accept our laws.

Izsó Alajos, Megyercsy Béla, Papp Gyula and Sík Sándor put down the final words of the scout law on 28, December 1912. The works of the painter and graphic artist Menyhárt József (1901-1976) accompany the laws.

Period dresses, flags, badges, posters, diaries, IDs, charters as well as memories of camps are shown at the exhibition. The Hungarian scouts strived from the beginning to inform the people of their aims, events through their handouts. Besides, they published several books as well.

Hungary won the chance to organize the 4th jamboree in 1933 after London 1920, Copenhagen 1924 and Birkenhead in 1929. The jamboree of Gödöllő was the most significant event of Hungarian scouts between the world wars. We show many objects and documents of the event.

The piarist priest, poet, teacher Sík Sándor (1889-1963) was the founder of Hungarian Boy Scouts. We show the contemporary publishings of his works.

The graphic artist, painter Márton Lajos (1891-1953) recorded the life of the scouts on the pages of their magazines. Several of his drawings can be seen in original as well as digital version.

The Hungarian Boy Scouts prohibited in 1948 resumed their work again in 1989. We show Sinkovits Imre's shirt he wore at the restarting celebration.
