The painter Ferenc Redő has designed around fifty of woven wall pictures in 40 years. Besides, he did almost the same number of works with his late wife Rozália Vörös. Since he is almost 90 years old now, the Ernst Museum is planning a retrospect exhibition of his works. Besides goblins, early graphics, and sewn wall textile, we also show some of his paintings.
Work of Ferenc Redő
Reduction sometimes seasoned with a little humor, irony, and naive composition done on purpose, is not far from the art of Redő Ferenc while he does not deny his origins as a painter.

Except for a short period, his life-work was concerned with variations of woven wall pictures to which he adjusted his thematic. He avoids the simple decorative surface treatment. His topics are landscapes, towns, and often figurative scenes. Scenes of classic or his private mythology are in abundance in his art. The viewer may feel nymphs, fauns, and clowns flutter in the imaginary environment mostly painted in happy colors in which a slight bit of retrospective irony, sometimes a sad or tragic undertone is felt.

He began with using clear colors brimming with life, which slowly faded with time. The works composed with less colors show traces of his talent as a graphic artist. He uses colors as a born painter. He paints the threads himself; the depth of the darker colors is not achieved by using the color black but the mixture of many colors. This way the motifs of deep tone seem to be livelier, they never become hollow.

The works presented at our exhibition give insight into all the artistic periods of the painter. The visitors may learn of his typical and favored motifs, most of his lyric works that can easily be declared as unpopular from the point of view of his favored spectacular ways, the common experience of memories and impressions.
